You often have to place short delays in the code to enable various operations to finish.
For long delays use 'sleep_for_seconds', for shorter delays use 'sleep_for_msecs' (thousands of a second).

That last delay does not really have a resolution of milliseconds, I think it is 10 millisecond increments.
So, put a delay after set_zoom.
You could also try getting and setting the focus, I think it works.
