Problem Partioning 8gb SD Card

The problem is I am using a 8gb SD card.  I can't format it to FAT because its too big.  I am trying to partition one and format it to FAT16 and put the CHDK on there and then have the second partition as the one where the pictures are actually saved too.  Is there a way I can partition my card on either a mac or pc to be half FAT16 and half FAT32 for FREE!?

I need help ASAP.  :(
Thanks

Yes
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card

Which camera do you have ? Most support multipartition, but not all.

Also, almost all cameras can be loaded manually with the "firm update" method: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/%22firmware_update_method%22

This works on any size card.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

@space101

On Windows, you could use SDMINSTE.EXE, from the Stereo Data Maker site,
(it does partitioning, formatting, making bootable, and can also 'swap partitions')
it's in this archive there: http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/sdm/file/common_files.zip

cheers,

I tried everything on this page: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card and still no luck

I have a cannon SD400.  I previously installed CHDK on a 256mb card to try it out and it worked fine.  Now that I am ready to put it on the card I am actually going to use because I need more picture space (a SanDisk Ultra II 8GB card) it won't work.  I managed to partition 5mb as FAT16 and the other FAT32 but still no dice.  It just continues to say "Memory card Error!   Card Locked!!", even though the card is certainly not locked.  My primary computer is a Mac...

I need to figure this out soon as it is for a project ! :/

Thanks

Just follow the advice you were given and use the SDM installer to partition your card and make the first partition bootable.
When finished, make sure the first partition is the small one.
Lock the card and install in camera.

I did the SDM installer and it succesflly partitioned my SD card and made the FAT12/16 partition bootable.  HOWEVER once I put it in the camera i recieved the same "Memory Card Error.  Memory card is locked!"  I tried this with my SD card both locked and unlocked, no luck!

Any more ideas :(

Does it say "card is locked" without CHDK or SDM ?

It isn't unknown for the little switch in the camera that detects the lock to get stuck.

It says it regardless of what is on the card, but the switch still moves up and down and clicks so you would think it is not the switch thats the problem.  I pluged in a different camera (a nicer one) and it works fine...
ahh what to do, maybe its the card?
