Gradual exposure (sunrise) timelapse question

I was looking at the sunrise timelapse feature. It seems that I need to connect
an external timing source to get the gradually increasing TV values.

It is also desirable to start a timelapse during sunrise without an external
timing source and get gradual increase in exposure. Is this possible at all in
SDM ?

I took a timelapse today morning, and I definitely need this feature, as the
images were totally blown out with the strong Australian sun, the moment after
the sun rose..

I posted this on the Yahoo SDM group 2 hours ago, but I still cannot view it. So I
will just post it here - Yahoo seems to delay actually posting a message for a few
hours after we submit it.
