Tethered shooting

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to do tethered shooting using CHDK firmware though camera USB port?

I would like to be able to ask the camera to take a picture with a certain bias exposure value ; I also need to know when the shooting process is over, and also be able to download the picture (or maybe just the thumbnail)...

Some cameras support this without CHDK. See http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SDKHomePageAct&keycode=Sdk_Lic&fcategoryid=314&modelid=7474&id=3464

There is also work ongoing to support this within CHDK, but it is not finished yet. See http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,4338.0.html
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Thanks for the links!

Unfortunally, Canon SDK only works under Windows/MacOS, and I mainly use Linux... But I'm pleased to ear that such feature will be supported in the future in CHDK :)

AFAIK gphoto supports this at least on some of the cameras that the canon SDK works on.

True. But it does not (yet) provide a common way to set the camera params (some camera require "2.5", others "2 1/2"...); this should change it the next versions.

But I think that having a good and universal API for tethered shooting in CHDK could be nice.

Maybe, one day, camera makers will do that in their original firmware! I don't know how much time they spend to keep their SDK up-to-date between all their models...
