Is it possible to control the image sensor ?

I was wondering, is it possible to control individual pixels on the sensor.  Like; if I want to use only 1/2 of the sensor, or only the bottom half, or every other pixel ?

In general, the sensor hardware only be read out in a limited number of ways. You can't just read one pixel. However, there are obviously a number of different readout modes that canon uses, for stills, video, live view etc.

CHDK doesn't currently have low level control of this kind of thing, but in theory it's possible.
