There are changes reported which differ in white space only. A bug in SVN commit? A feature? ???

Not only spaces. It is clearly see if to tick the "Ignore white spaces changes" option.

Should I turn on 'Keep trailing blanks' as a workaround or - should the source be cleaned up?
(I know about the annoying 'White space changes' tick in the Browser)

What's about tabs ?

I also hate tabs. I use a editor which keeps the already existed tabs intact, but use "4 spaces" replacement when added a new.
But I think, such "code cleanup" does not get harm.

What's about BUILD_NUMBER := ?

It's autoincremented counter ('gmake' does this each time you build the CHDK). That's why my last build has a quite large build number.

Can I delete changeset [285] - to prevent cluttering the change log - and commit again with other settings?

Nope. That's the approach of any repository - all changes are kept forever.

My first stumbling around in assembla.com/chdk carved in (virtual) stone!  :lol
