Thanks for your reply Frans. I wasn't being clear enough: the autofocus problem is an issue only with custom timer mode and not with continous mode. The reason I can't use continuous mode either is its inability to use shutter speeds that are long enough, as I stated earlier in the thread.

Being limited to 10 images in custom timer mode is a limitation of the camera.
David is working on something else now but after that, he will try to solve the long exposure time.

Yes, and it's not a limitation only on the 860 but also on quite a few other Canon non-dslr's which chdk is primarily targeted for. That is why I suggested the following:

Quote
Wouldn't it be better to use the custom timer for the amount of exposures, as the need of different exposures rarely exceeds 10, but the need for different focuses is often greater than 10, especially if you want to get a range from macro to infinity. The amount of focuses would be set as in the script parameters.

P.S. or there could at least be a choice where one could decide between having focus or exposure controlled by the custom timer.

Also what is the other thing that is being worked on?

I have now finished the other work.
It had to do with problems with the Ricoh switch.
I have also now improved the header information so that you can see which of eight possible SDM modes the camera is in.
I can upload a version if you wish.

If you need more than ten focus exposures why not just set focus-mode 'Auto'  ?

Anyway, we can discuss it.

We also need to look at the problem of long exposures when bracketing.

I have added a new uBasic command called 'hdr_focus_stack'.

It should be useful for long-exposure bracketed focus stacks.

Hey David,
been having some problems with my laptop. The graphic card failed and a friend ended up fixing it by formatting my hard drive and re-installing Windows. This even though I told him not to delete ANYTHING. So I have spent weeks trying to my restore the deleted ~66GB of photos, videos etc with different software. I lost almost all of my time-lapse videos and many pictures I created with the help of CHDK. There are some left, some I may be able to recreate but some (most of the videos and maybe half the photos) are lost for good. I haven't been able to use my computer yet, as I am still thinking of new ways/software I could try to save as much as possible. I am still pretty pissed, and I won't be available to try out new things until I have acquired the use of my laptop again.

Thanks for letting me know.

That is horrible  ... time to start again with the relatively few programmes that you really need.

In the Northern hemisphere, it is almost Spring, so lots of photo opportunities just waiting !

@whatevertsunami

Maybe the Testdisc & Photorec tools may be helpful for you  --> http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Software#Helpful_Tools

Yeah, the positive thing is that I got rid of all the useless stuff as well.. although it doesn't comfort me too much right now. Gotta dig the auld 860 out of formaldehyde again, haven't been taking much photos since the incident.

Thanks for the tip! I actually tried photorec already, but didn't realize I could perhaps get a different result with testdisk..? Here are the programs I have tried so far: photorec, easeus data recovery wizard, recover my files, arax disk doctor (as we speak). And the ones I still plan on trying: testdisk, stellar phoenix, getdataback.

If there is something useful I could still try I would appreciate any tips!
