G11 porting

These are custom connectors made especially for the Ipod.

You need to obtain a 3.5mm stereo jack plug.

The link you posted is not relevant to your plug and cable.

It is impossible to tell from the photo in reply #34 which wire is connected to second ring.

Is it the yellow wire or the other wire (not sure what colour it is) ?

The image in above reply is not clear enough to tell.

Can you post a better image ?

The microphone input is connected to ground.

I assume that both the yellow and red/green wire are connected to shield (ground) ?

Do you have a testmeter ?

If not, no futher progress can be made.

You can also improvise. E.g. by using a battery and small light bulb or LED.

Yes, for determining how the wires are connected.

But we also need to see if there is a voltage on either of the microphone inputs on the sound card.

If there is, the phototransistor can simply connect that input to ground.

If not, we need to use an external battery.

So, do you have a test meter ?

If not, connect the jack plug to your sound card and run a free 'sound card oscilloscope' programme that will display the voltage.

Connect the red or green wire to the ground wires (make sure the insulation is removed from the wires).

Does the displayed signal voltage change ?


(It is easier to buy a very inexpensive Chinese-made testmeter).


Are you sure the microphone input of your sound card uses a stereo plug ?

It is more likely to be a mono jack plug.
