Connect the red or green wire to the ground wires

I tried the simple phototransistor->soundcard cable.

Before you try the more complicated circuit tell me the colour of each wire and which part of the jack-plug it connects to.

Is there a voltage between ring and shield when it is plugged into the sound card ?

I finally find out, why the phototransistor method is not working for me.
It is (like i expected) the used photodiode/transistor from the old computer mouse, which makes trouble here. The mouse uses infrared light (>780nm) led, an so the photodiode in my mouse is only sensitive to infrared light. If i use a led-lamp or the af-light of the G11, i got no peak on the mic-input of my soundcard. But if i use are "real" lamp, or use one of my infra-red tv-remotes, i got huge impules on the mic-input, which can be perfectly recorded.

So, bottom line is: Use only photodiodes which are sensitive to "visible" light, like the SFH 300 (420...1130nm) , because the G11 LEDs does not emit light in the infrared spectrum. So i am grounded now and have to wait until my photodiode order arrives... damned!  :haha

Sometimes. the photodiode from a mouse can work, especially with the very bright autofocus led.

kingcang may succeed in downloading it.

But, we at least know that the firmware CAN be dumped.

Once that is done, the 'big boys' can tell you what to do next.

Is the microphone input on your sound card a mono or stereo jack ?

Umpf. Just found that the Lenovo T61 uses a "Monaural Microphone Jack"

That is OK, we are making progress ... slowly.

So, you need a 3.5mm mono jack.

Do you have a phototransistor or maybe a photodiode ?

If not, you need to get one.

(that is an expensive-looking laptop !)

We can test your 'scope software as soon as you get the plug.

You will also need a resistor of a few kilohms and another one of a few hundred kilohms.

I am going to bed, but first  ......

Connect the lower-value resistor between the two wires of the jack plug.

Connect the other resistor to the wire that connects to the jack plug tip.
i.e. not to the ground end,

|Connect the ground wire to the -ve of a 1.2V or 1.5V battery.
Connect a wire to the larger value resistor (the end that is not connected to anything).

Plug into sound card and start 'scope programme.

Touch that last wire to battery +ve.

If everything is setup correctly you should see the scope display change.
