Is it possible to make the G-11 remote capture using CHDK and the factory usb cord? I use 'capture one' which you can fire off the camera via the laptop and would love to have the G-11 be able to utilise this.

Canon does not support the G11 via  the Canon-SDK anymore, so it is not possible to do this via the "usual" software tools, available for older canon cameras. With CHDK you can trigger the camera to shoot, if you use the USB-Trigger way. To control this
via software on the PC is not so easy. You need the posibillity to switch the powersupply on/off on your usb-port. I dont know if this is allready possible with a sw-tool.

A possible solution could be to implement the PTP extension. But this is not done now for the G11. Also this way works only on 32-Bit Windows machines (the PTP Client software driver / USB-Lib need on the PC-Site is only available for 32-Bit windows). I dont know if there is client software available for linux or mac. As i have now only 64-Bit machines running, i currently dont have any intension to implement the PTP-Extension for the G11/S90. (Maybe i pick up this task if someone releases a stable running usblib for 64-bit windows). I tried in the past to get this stuff running for the G11, but it does not run very stable so i canceled any further implementation of the ptp-stuff.

I think i dont understand the problem. The focus box only goes green if you half press the shooting button in shooting mode (and the camera is able to find focus in the area). What exactly do you mean with exit chdk?. Leaving the ALT-Mode via ALT-Key, or booting the camera without CHDK? If you are in ALT-Mode, i dont expect that you can focus via shooting button, because this button is used to start scripts in ALT-Mode.

In my case the green box appears for a fraction of a second with half and full press, then disappears.  When I turn off chdk with the card lock switch and shoot normally, the green box stays present until the picture is completely taken.  It's not a big deal, but just an irratation since I like the continuous confirmation that I'm in focus.  Maybe it's a setting?  Thx.

Thankyou Err99 for looking into this so promptly. I didn't realise it would be such a pain staking effort just to get the images off the camera...I suppose I'll stick with still plugging in/out the card reader until someone can come up with a stable fix:(

CHDK does not "switch" over from one to another partition during shooting.
During boot, CHDK checks if there is a second FAT32 partition avalaible. If so,
ONLY this second partition is used to store the pictures.

If you still got the pictures on the first (small) partition, you did something wrong by creating the SD-CARD.
Maybe the second parition is not created, or not correctly formated, so that chdk is not able to detect a second
FAT32 partition and has to use the first small partition.

If you have access to a windows pc,  simply use the SDM-Installer. It will creates a corrected formated dual-partition SD-Card by a push of a button.

Sorry for the slow reply, it's been a busy few weeks at my new job AND I still am searching for my first home!  Anyhow, I can't use the SDM-installer as my G11 is the 1.00L firmware...SDM is one of the first things I thought would be interesting to get!

I'll keep playing around on the MAC until I get it I guess!  Thanks for the responses ERR99, you truly know your stuff!

Just to make sure, CHDK has to be installed on the smaller partition (less than <4 gB to retain FAT32 indexing structure) and the second partition can be any size (in this case my first partition for CHDK is 10mB and my second partition for RAW storage is 7.69gB), correct?  Thanks again!

Well, good luck with your first job and home.
That should take-up a lot of your time.

The SDM installer can be used to prepare your card regardless of the firmware version.

(If you want to try SDM for 100l I can upload a version for you.)

Thanks David, that would be great!  Hopefully I can get it working before Thursday (holiday/vacation wkend!)  Yes, the house-hunting is taking up a lot of my time as I am VERY particular about everything.  Hopefully the rates keep dropping (currently 4.75%!)

If you send me a PM with a YSI (you send it) or whatever is most popular that would be great.  Are you the developer of SDM?  I'm asking since I am confused as I did not see a version available for 1.00L... :)

Another odd ball question:  What setting do I have wrong to make the lcd display an outline of the picture subjects, and a FROZEN msg appear?  This happens when the shutter is pressed in Alt mode.  I reset all the options and it corrected, but I had to reconfigure all my settings.

PS.  Never have yet figured out how to keep the green focus box present for the whole snapshot.  Thx.

Sounds like you turned on "edge overlay" somewhere.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Yes, that was it.  I wrote Frozen in my index for future reference.  Thx.  Is there a script that will turn off all the leds on the g11?  That would be handy when stealth is needed.   Is there a read on scripts somewhere?  I don't even know what egg timer is.  :(
