Question: Why is it that important to keep the images in sequence? do you put them all in one folder?

I use separate folders but there are times when I want to merge some folders.  That is when I run into problems and have to use a rename program first to avoid conflicts.

Your eBay example would be a downside of this enhancement but I am sure that there are many things in this world that people manipulate to their advantage when they can.  But that isn't a valid reason. 

As counterpoint, some people say that no one should publish information on security holes in applications and operating systems because it helps hackers.  Similarly with how to pick locks.  Or crack passwords....

I DO HAVE the menu item set to CONTINUOUS.  And it does work, except that it started from 0001 again after Canon repaired the camera.

My guess is the Canon did not repair your camera but replaced it.
I would assume that if they repair a camera, that at least they take a few pictures to test it and wouldn't bother to reset the counter afterwards.
Did you try to use the vers.req trick? This should normally report the number of pictures that are taken with the camera and I wonder if it differs.

No, Canon did not replace the camera (I wish they had done so).  I know because the outer case was still scratched on return and the serial number was still partially worn off.  They replace various internal parts.

What is the vers.req trick?

Hi,
This is slightly different request from the original:
I often take a few pictures then want to reorder them while still in the camera.  Usually I want to take a later image and put it into a previous slot (where there may or may not be an open image number).  I know of no way to do this in the camera.  I would need two functions:
1.  Starting at a certain image, add one to the image number of each image.
2.  Rename an image (to put it into the gap I have just created).
