Got CHDK loaded and am able to access the menu and make changes, however my changes don't seem to make any difference. The first thing I am trying to do is long exposure time. I have it set to 64 and have tried the disable, on and off settings and am still getting a 15 second exposure. Any suggestions?

Don't know if you already have it, but check the user guide (see my signature below, Overrides are on page 9)
to verify your set up

Yes I do have it, which is how I got to where I now am. As I mentioned, I have set the duration to all of the different settings and have tried the on, off and disable to all of those. I still get a 15 second maximum exposure.

Regular EXIF fields are what you can see in your typical image viewer/editor or operating system exif viewers. Those fields include exposure time, aperture and ISO among a great deal of other things.

When you set CHDK to override something (e.g. exposure time), Canon firmware does not become fully aware of the override and will end up writing incorrect values to the EXIF tag (it will e.g. write the exposure time that Canon firmware was going to use before your CHDK override changed it).

The real, overrided value does exist in the EXIF tag too, but it is buried in a proprietary binary MakerNotes section only known to some more specialized EXIF viewers/editors such as exiftool. But note that even this value will be incorrect if you request an override which the camera is not capable of due to hardware or firmware limitations.

I believe you are saying that the display will say 15 seconds when in reality the shutter will stay open for 64...yes? That was my understanding before I asked you all for help, however the shutter is in fact not staying open, it stays for 15 seconds.

Is the SX 100 not capable of using this software? I am curious then why the website said it is and the software is written for the version of firmware, 100B, in the camera. I am sure I am doing something wrong that it doesn't work.

OK, maybe we should check your settings, then, AFAIK you should have:

Override Shutter Speed           [ 64]

Value Factor                         [  1 ]

Shutter Speed Enum Type [ Ev Step] 

Otherwise, you'll want someone that actually owns the same cam
to comment / try / explain

I made the changes as you outlined above. I had them set correctly except I believe I had enum type set differently. At any rate I change it and the shutter then stayed open for about 3 seconds.

I am pretty rapidly reaching the point of diminishing return. It's just not worth fooling with if it is this much of a pain in the butt to make it work.

I really appreciate your taking the time to try to help.

The shutter overrides work for others, so most likely you're doing something wrong...

The Enum type can also be set to "1", this also gives 64 x 1 = 64 second exposure time.

Did you disable the overrides from the CHDK menu ? --> set it to "Off" or "Disable", read more here...

What do you see on the OSD ?
You should see Tv: 64 in red there...
...also do not press the shutter button without half-pressing first...
