A540 - support for SDHC card

I have a Canon PowerShot A540 camera and it accepts SD cards upto 2GB, but it does not work with SDHC card of 4GB or more.

Is anyone working on SDHC support for Canon A540 here? Can you please send me a CHDK firmware update for my camera so that I can continue to enjoy using it with larger capacity memory cards?

I know this is a camera model with no firmware updates posted on Canon website. I searched CHDK forum and found no posts on this feature.

Canon PowerShot A550 model works with SDHC cards, why won't Canon provide a firmware update that will allow SDHC cards in Canon PowerShot A540 models? I am not sure....

thanks!

No, AFAIK we can't do that.

It's possible that this is a hardware limitation.

AFAIK it is impossible to upgrade cams with an SD slot to SDHC through software
the only thing you could do is hunt for the rare 4 GB SD (not HC) cards ...

sorry for the bad news,

wim

edit: too slow again LOL

Since CHDK is loaded from card, SDHC support adding in CHDK is impossible.
SDHC support must be built in ROM.

Ahh....  the old "boot strap" problem.  can't you change the memory card after CHDK is loaded? I thought it was possible. If so, then boot the camera up using a regular SD card and then move to a SDHC card afterwards.

The problem then is, I got to slide open the camera cover at the bottom to change memory cards and voila! battery power is gone and so would the CHDK firmware.....  s*#$!!

thanks everyone for your responses.
