Hi

I've succesfully proved that gphoto2 will talk to an A550 in PTP mode that's running CHDK.I can upload/download pictures etc.So I guess the handshake problem reported in this sites faq is fine for gphoto2.

However the remote-capture feature (take a picture) isn't supported. Would it be possible for CHDK to add remote-capture support to those Canon camera's that previously didn't support it?

Thanks to the A550 porter for doing all his efforts on the port to the A550.

hmm that's what I most need this days! I hope my A550 will be soon converted to a remote capture cam  :xmas

It seems to be good ideas to start on. Maybe it requires an internal hack to bring the camera to rec mode while connected to usb port?

I'm not sure that what you want is USB remote features...  ???

...if it's not, i don't think it will be ever supported, sorry  :-[

I've reading, and the posts talks about a remote control to take the pictures, and thats great, but I want to connect my cam to my pc, let it take pictures, and save it on hard disk automatically. That's the other half of my problem  :D

There's not problem to shot the pictures by script, my dream is to save it on hard disk.


updated:
reading more on the forum, i've just realized that the solution for what I want is that some software (cam4you, psremote, etc) detect the a550, and take control over it, remote shooting by software and downloading the images to pc  :xmas

but it seems it doesn't have implemented yet to a550.. or I'm wrong?

I was surprised about (the stubitity of) Canon to remove this indeed very useful feature when I first tried that with my a710
but after a lot of search on the ned my point of view is that one:
If the camera doesn't support to send a live stream over usb, then a canon firmware part is missing and it is NOT possible
to get it running without of much lowlevel work in camera frimware, maybe it would also be necessary to change/rewrite the
Firmware. Which as I think is a forbidden action in CHDK developping, as that is some of the main goals of it.

I don't try, but i think it's right...
this feature must be implemented just on original firmware!
Chdk porting can't help you, you'd wait develop from cam4you, psremote, etc or original new canon firmware
...and in this last case a new porting too!  :o

I think this is right  :(

Maybe somebody could correct me and explain better some easy solution  :P
