Okay, I never played a lot with it but after changing the different values, here what I can tell from what I saw:
- "Value Factor" is only used to change the "Subj. Dist. Value" faster or slower (increment by 10, 100 times...)
- "Subj. Dist. Value" is the only information useful to set the focus when shooting ("Value Factor" seems to have no effect on it - except when put to "off": then manual focus is disabled).

My confusion: the SD value for bracketing is relative to the autofocus position, the SD value for override is absolute.

Incidentally I noticed that if I turn macro mode on and start continuous shooting then the camera focuses and turns macro mode off. I guess that is by design...

Forgive my ignorance...
I have been loving the A480 conversion. I am more of an optical person, though I do know software to a small degree.

I am curious if it is possible to build a version of the firmware that causes the camera to ignore the motors for zoom, focus, lens extension. I.E. turn the camera on, and have it run happily without the lens assembly attached to it. This would allow the attachment of other lenses.

Alternately, has the firmware for the camera been decompiled into C or something human readable, so that one could more easily reverse engineer the hardware limit and motor position code?

Where is the code for doing PTP on the A480? Even if it is extremely slow it would be quite useful fr my application.

Apologies in advance if I've missed something in reading through this thread.
I purchased a Canon A480 because it is listed as supported.  When I received it I checked with the ver.req and vers.req in both the root and the DCIM folders.  I get back Firmware Ver. 1.0.0.0  and no following pages.  I have not yet tried porting CHDK because I wanted to ask if I'm doing something stupid or if I wasted the money.
I need a compact camera that can be set up to shoot once per second for 4 hours.  I thought this would do it but maybe I'm wrong.

Hello! 

I have been searching for a little while now and cannot figure out if the A480 supports the PTP extensions.  I am actively developing scripts for the camera and I really miss the ability to transfer files from/to the camera without having to remove the SD card each time.

Looks like I am currently on CHDK 0.9.9-905

Can any one comment?
