PTP support is now compiled in by default.  Its possible for some cameras to not have PTP by undefining the support in their local platform_camera.h file but this has not been done to the A480.

Are you using the most recent version from the autobuild server ?  File transfer while working with scripts is a really nice feature - saves a lot of wear & tare on the SD card and camera door.

I didn't realize that the A480 was supported in the auto builds and was still using one from 2010. I took the most recent package and now I have PTP support.

I'll be playing with ptpcamgui soon.

Hello here!

Currently my wife takes my sx130is for three months, so I am looking for cheap replacement. I found a possibility to buy broken a480 - the LCD screen doesn't work at all.

Since I had never used this cam here is my question - how hard would be to run CHDK on this cam doing it in the dark? How hard would be to connect the cam by PTP seeing nothing at all on the LCD? I've been never used PTP either...

I own one of these and it's been shooting every minute for 2 weeks in a row now for a time lapse project without a problem so I would recommend it.

One option to get around your problem would be to use an external monitor connected to the composite analog out port.

Using PTP cam works fine on the camera. One of my goal is to have it connected to an Allwinner A10 based device running debian armhf and controlling it using ptpcam.

Should not be be any problem, for installing libusb driver you use the monitor of a computer, you do not need to use the display on the camera. You need a functional keyboard on the camera for the ALT mode.
Attached is all you need for a PTP, installation instructions you can ignore because they are written for the the man who first time uses CHDK.

Oh, guys, thanks a lot! I haven't thought about analog video output for monitor:D That's so simple solution to do CHDK installation and then use PTP. I think I'll take my chance and buy the cam. However I have a three days to think about that:)
