Help with downloading chdk

Hi! Please help! I have just downloaded cardtricks and from the http://mighty-hoernsche.de/,

I chose to download the  complete zip.but I can't copy CHDK binaries to card.

I'm using Windows vista.It was through winrar   and extracted them on my desktop.The CHDK folder has different folders- book, curves,data, fonts, games, grids, lang, lualib, scripts, symbols and syscurves.CVF..


What shall I do? I really want to have CHDK on my A540.

hi rhumba, and welcome to the forum !

just have WinRar unpack to your card, and you should be ready to go.

Or, in CardTricks, select your card, and then choose 'CHDK->Card'

Hi! Thank you so much for the reply.Uhmm.. I guess, the problem is with the .bin and .fir. I saved it on my desktop. The thing is, I can't open it. When I open it now, it's in wordpad that has a languange that i don't understand. ( Words like computer programmers do) When I check the properties, it has Windows Shell Commor. Do I need to download anything so it could read the CHDK? Thank you !

You or your computer don't need to read the files, your cam should !

All CHDK files need to be copied to the card, keeping the folder structure.

CHDK is NOT a firmware upgrade, and will need to be loaded every time you start your cam, this can
be done either automatically (that's what the DISKBOOT.BIN is for) or manually (using the the PS.FIR)

edit: another way to explain, maybe: the CHDK files you downloaded are 'programs' for your camera, not for your computer
       CardTricks is a program for your computer that can help you download and transfer CHDK files to card

Hi Whim!Yes, I do understand that it's my cam that needs to read it but when I was in the part of -- "Afterwards use the CHDK -> Card button, select the .zip file you've downloaded in the last step... "
I click CHDK card and then I saw  the CHDK folder. I opened it and then it has different folders again- These are the exact names of the folders-  book, curves,data, fonts, games, grids, lang, lualib, scripts, symbols and syscurves.CVF..

Whim ,I'm so happy! Finally, I've done with it! I copied it from User , then downloads. ( not from desktop)
