Problems installing CHDK on a Canon Powershot SX10IS

I have imaged CHDK (sx10-103a-0.9.9-867-full.zip) on a 2GB Kingston SD memory card using Cardtricks v1.44 as per the website instructions making the FAT formatted SD card bootable.

Inserting the SD card (with write protect on) into the camera, and pressing the Play button (or for that matter any of the buttons) nothing happens. The camera seems dead and won't switch on. The camera can only be revived by and sliding the SD write protect off, then opening and closing the battery cover temporarily cutting the battery power.

I have also tried:

- Earlier SX10 CHDK versions.
- Not making the SD card bootable.
- Manually copying the files without using CardTricks.

It seems others have got the CHDK working with their SX10IS, I must be missing something? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hello & welcome, i4cy !

The camera seems dead and won't switch on. The camera can only be revived by and sliding the SD write protect off, then opening and closing the battery cover temporarily cutting the battery power.
When the camera crashes, you are most likely using a wrong CHDK version; the CHDK version must fit to your camera's firmware version...

What's your cameras  REAL firmware version ?

--> Read FAQ: How can I get the original firmware version number of my camera?

Thanks fe50 for replying so quickly.

Yes you're absolutely right, I wasn't using the CHDK version that matched my camera's firmware. Once I determined the camera's real firmware version from the link you sent me, and created the correct version on the SD memory card, it all worked!

I thought I read the documentation properly, but obviously not  :-[ .

Thanks again.
