I scored and S2 off of Craigslist for dirt cheap... The camera has the original 16mb memory card. (Dorito's chip.)
The CHDK works great!
However, I am needing a larger memory card to record video and take large format photos.
This is not as easy as it sounds.
Sandisk basic SDHC cards do not provide read/write speeds on the packaging anymore... The guy at BustBuy told me that the write speeds are 5mbps... (Not that I really trust a BustBuy's sales lackey...) I have been putting off the higher memory because I cannot figure out what the relay rate of transfer is between my camera and the miniature solid state memory card. I am not even sure where to find this info... (Although writing this thread made me think of Googling Digic II.)
So... I have been to Tom's Hardware to read about benchmarks. (Which is absolutely useless information because it only tells you how fast the card is, but not what the camera can spit out.) I checked out the WIKI-CHDK on the speeds of different SD cards and the 4GB limitation for CHDK... (Not understanding about this either.)
I can get a dirt cheap 2GB card but I like lots of space. I can get a 4GB but, my hangup is #1. Will my camera accept a 4GB card? #2. If I drop a few more dollars for an SanDisk EXTREME III, would there be any difference noticed between that of a cheap card and that which can write at faster speeds? #3. Is there a page on CHDK's Wiki site that explains what the limits are of each Digic processor... What are their max write speeds?
This would all help me to decide what 4GB card to get, but then if the read/write speeds are the only thing holding access to larger capacity cards... Like 32GB, then wouldn't a large capacity card work in my camera?
There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about re-formatting the card to different storage chunks other than FAT16, why not FAT 32 or FAT 8... Does it have to do with the camera's processor? or read ability?
...anyway this is what I discovered on the way to buy some memory and now I have stymied myself.
-BTW, I discovered that memory cards are a hella lot cheaper online than in the local stores!
