i turned the compression option down to 1, but the video recording is still weighing in at around 200 Kbps,

I'm after just the audio, is there a script that will just record the audio, or could someone help,

the CHDK manual says something about sound recording only is possible, but i don't know how, or even if the SX10 is capable of that feature,

i tried turning the compression mode from normal to quality, but the same bitrate is achieved, i just want the sound only,

hope someone can help, thanks,

In the play mode, press menu and you will have the audio recording option.

thanks, it did not occur to me that to record sound one has to go into play mode,

just one problem though, the sound is being recorded in a WAV format, with no compression being used, massive amounts of space is being used up,

is there anyway of turning on compression, perhaps mp2 or mp3,

because i save more on space when recording video and sound, as Mpeg recording utilizes compression,

i was hoping there was a way like the manual does say that some camera's can do, and that is turn of video recording, and just save the Audio track only,

long story short, i want to leave my camera recording all the sounds in my front room whilst I'm at work, (the reason is not relevant)

appreciate any feedback,

Not that I know of.
But can't you better use something else (e.g. a phone) for recording audio?

Where did you find this information ?
It's not a CHDK feature...

I'm having trouble engaging high compression mode,

200 Kbps is the lowest compression rate i can achieve, that's with the lens cap on as well,

i cannot seem to get any lower then this bitrate,

i assume the cameara does record in mp2, which is part of the Mpeg codec,
otherwise the video & sound muxed file would be huge right?

No, on newer models like the SX10 Canon use the H.264 codec, QuickTime movie format.
