Cannot Get badpixel file to work on a470

Cannot Get badpixel file to work on a470

I have been trying to remove a couple of hot pixels using the badpixel file. I got the coordinates in photoshop and placed them in the file as:
1121,1876
2544,1327

... and I placed the "badpixel" file in the CHDK directory, but the bad pixels remain. Am I doing something wrong here?

I tried using show_bad.exe to give me the coordinates of the pixels (in case I got the coordinates wrong), but it won't recognize my raw files. Does show_bad.exe take raw from a470?

Any insight on either of these would be helpful.

This won't work...show_bad.exe is used to generate the file

The show_bad.exe tool should work with the A470 RAW files; note: do NOT use a RAW image in DNG format with show_bad.exe !
- Do you get an error message ?
- What's your Windows version ?

Thanks for the response!

In the command prompt I enter "show_bad.exe CRW_5017.CRW 128" and it returns "file is unknown". I made used all the default settings in the RAW menu (including NOT using DNG format).

I am using a relatively new installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2.  Is there some update I would need for that?

So this should work - but show_bad.exe doesn't recognize your RAW file, although the RAW image size should be ok...

-> What show_bad.exe version do you use ? the one from http://drop.io/chdksoft/asset/2009-01-23-show-bad-zip ?
-> What's the exact file size or your RAW images ?
     (should be exactly (3152*2340*10)/8 = 9.219.600 bytes)

New version with all CHDK cameras support - http://ewavr.nm.ru/chdk/show_bad.zip

I originally tried 2009-01-23-show-bad-zip.  Now I downloaded http://ewavr.nm.ru/chdk/show_bad.zip and the results are the same.

The size of the .CRW file in the properties box shows up as "Size: 8.81 MB (9,243,240) bytes" and "Size on disk: 8.81 MB (9,244,672 bytes)". 

I am running Windows XP as a Virtual Machine in an OS X Leopard computer as the host OS. Could running this using a VM be causing the problem?

For the 7MP sensor used in the A470, a filesize of 9.219.600 bytes is expected, not 9,243,240 bytes - therefore your RAWs are not recognized.

- You're sure, "DNG format [  ]" is not enabled ?
  Test: when you enable "DNG format [  ]", what's the RAW filesize ?

- Do you use the latest CHDK version from the Autobuild server ?
- What's your cameras firmware version ?


For testing, pls. use a fresh formatted SD card, download the latest CHDK from the Autobuild server,
enter the CHDK "RAW parameters" menu, enable "Save RAW [ ]", leave all other CHDK settings at the default values.
Then exit <Alt> mode, take an image, copy the RAW file to your computer using a card reader...

In DNG4PS2 settings RAW size for A470 is 3152x2346 (9243240 bytes). Also JPEG size and active area are different in CHDK code and DNG4PS2 for a470. IMHO we must correct CHDK code.

For testing I did the following:
- Downloaded the latest build: a470-102c-0.9.9-873-full
- Reformatted a 4GB SD card.
- Made the card bootable.
- Moved the CHDK files to the card.
- In "Raw parameters" I enabled "Save RAW []" and left all other default values.
- Exited <Alt> mode and took a couple of pictures.
- Using a card reader, transferred the files directly from the card to the directory with show_bad.exe.
- In command prompt entered "show_bad.exe CRW_4390.CRW 128".
I received the same "file is unknown" output. Also the Raw file size was the same as before ("Size: 8.81 MB (9,243,240 bytes)".

My a470 has the firmware GM1.02C

Let me know if you want any other info.

@bootlegjedi: you can check the size of your JPGs in a good viewer

@ewavr, fe50

Hoping this helps, here's a list of relevant properties from camera.h for all 7 Mp camera's
Both the CAM_ACTIVE_AREA and the CAM_JPEG values appear far off those for the rest of the cams
