PowerShot D10 Porting Prize

Hi,

Would offering a free PowerShot D10 as a prize speed up the porting of CHDK to the camera?

Instead of spending ~$200 on a clumsy waterproof housing for one of the currently supported cameras, I'd readily part with roughly the same amount of money to have the port for D10.

The offer is valid until March 18, 2010.

:) :) I also pledge US$100 (via paypal) in support of the above offer. :) :)
I will regard it as a functional port when:
- it supports my D10 (same info as on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/D10)

Firmware version GM1.00A
Adj Ver.004.010

- it can shoot in RAW (that I can import into Adobe Lightroom 2.6), prefer DNG
- it provides manual control of shutter speed and aperture
- it supports motion detection
- it doesn't crash  :(

Sounds like an excellent idea.  Maybe this will entice some of the programmers to take a closer look at porting the D10. :)

Oh, in case this helps I'm happy to do testing on my D10 if someone without one plans to do the development.

And if you hadn't noticed, the Firmware has been blinked out already.

Hear, hear!
I did my share: i blinked the firmware out! Now, i will not do the port, but i'm here to test it, if needed.

Cheers!

Would offering a free PowerShot D10 as a prize speed up the porting of CHDK to the camera?

It would be great to get some reaction from the developers.

While I cannot offer much more than a free camera or its monetary equivalent, I can discuss other terms such as deadlines. We could appoint an independent trusted member of the developer community to judge the results etc.

See http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._My_camera_isn.27t_ported_yet._Is_a_port_planned_.3F_When_will_it_be_ready_.3F_How_can_I_help_.3F

Also rule #4 here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,2.0.html

The two main requirements are access to the camera and motivation to spend a significant amount of time and effort on it. Receiving a camera would solve both of these for many developers.

Regarding:
Quote
- it provides manual control of shutter speed and aperture
I would assume that the D10, like the IXUS only has an ND filter, not a real adjustable aperture. If it did have a real aperture, it would have an AV mode in the canon firmware.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I read rule #4 but I don't think it applies. We are not offering "commercial" rates, it is just a small thank you to whoever does the work.

Regarding the ND filter instead of adjustable aperture, yes you may be right. I remove that requirement from my offer, so it now reads:

- it can shoot in RAW (that I can import into Adobe Lightroom 2.6), prefer DNG
- it provides manual control of shutter speed
- it supports motion detection
- it doesn't crash

In truth I intend to pay up if I can get raw images out! That is my #1 requirement.

Before you get too 'carried away', why do you assume that CHDK RAW is a worthwhile feature with the D10, or any other supported camera ?

We are dealing with 10 or 12-bit small-sensor cameras, not digital SLR's.

Do you have convincing test results from any other CHDK-supported camera ?
