MF disabled with no display

Hi,

I recently bought a A570IS mainly for timelapse shooting.

To avoid too much battery usage, I turn off the display and review during shooting. But when I do that, enabling ALT mode always disable manual focus (it does not if the display remains on).

Is there a way to turn off autofocus with display off? Could it be a bug in CHDK?

Thanks,

This is a Canon thing. When you turn off the display, the camera also turns off the sensor and the somewhat power hungry electronics that is required to maintain focus (between shots, manual focus mode consumes more current than auto focus mode).

You could use focus override instead (from a script or CHDK overrides), I suppose.

Also, you can save some power by disabling the LCD backlight using suitable script commands or by plugging something into the video jack (causing the display to shut down and the video output driver to be powered on, consuming less power than the backlight). The savings from a disabled backlight are nowhere near what you get from turning off the sensor using the display button, though.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I'll search for the scripts your are refering...

In fact, I can't find a way to avoid CHDK to make a AF cycle when shooting. If I use click "shoot_full", the AF cycle is triggered, and even if the command does not way for this cycle to end, the focus is moved, so the image is blured.

So, how can I shoot without AF cycle?
