Has canon's marketing department finally painted themselves into a corner with their ridiculous designations for different markets ?

One of the new cameras is the IXUS 990. I didn't see mention of what the US market model name will be, but SD990 already refers to the IXUS 980. This isn't the first time the same number has referred to different cameras (e.g IXUS 850 and SD 850) but now both higher and lower designations are already used. :haha

Why in the world didn't they just use the same numbers from the 900 onward ?

Don't forget what the H stands for.

Hej,
Most of these models are boring and ugly. I really miss the old powershot A design, PTvAvM, and grip, now they have killed that serie for sure, they now also do it to the SXxxx line. Also they removed AA's for it, seems they have no strategy but copying panasonic and others.

The funny cam could be the D10, but it looks like a toy, and no PTvAvM either. :/

Why the hell canon havn't put digit IV in A1000 and A2000 and not realeased those low-upgraded A1100 and A2100 ??

There will be a firmware update for SX1 IS too, maybe SX10 will have it too, but havn't heard any news about that for now.

The D10 is the waterproof and shockproof so it will have to be kinda ugly.

I think the new camera look great as long as you get them in a normal color like black or gray.  The red and other colors is not for me.

They did kill the A series and I also have gotten pretty annoyed like just about everyone else with the naming scheme they use.

I ordered an A2000 last night, half-asleep and didn't realize it doesn't offer manual shutter and aperture control.  Can you get that functionality back with with CHDK?

Thanks!

@jacobm3

A2000 does not have an iris diaphragm, so full aperture control is impossible (but you can control the ND filter)

So, in the new lineup what's the least expensive model that gives you manual control - P, Av, Tv, and M?

I think A590's may start selling for more used than they did new.  I bought mine for $100 during the closeout.  Should have bought several.
