Use of Camera computer / OS / CHDK to control external devices

Has anyone tried to control external devices with the camera OS/CHDK?

Items I have seen discussed here include:
 - down load storage to external drives (ipod)
 - USB port (shutter release, ...)

Is it possible to:
 - send different voltage signals for different durations?  and if so how with uBasic scripts
 - output via USB?
 - output via other ports? A/V out?
 - flash - light activated switch?
 - low light focus assist light > light activated switch
 - led indicator lights?

....just thinking....

Yea I thought the idea was to control stuff like relays and stuff, for this just a simple short serial burst out of one LED would suffice. Like turning on a hugely loud siren when people walk in front of the camera, but only if they are wearing something red! :haha
