It's even easier with a Mac - OSX lets you see both partitions as separate volumes simultaneously.

I have a Windows 7 laptop with a built in card reader. Will it see both partitions automatically?

Why doesn't SDM support manual loading?

I don't think so, try it.

sdminst.exe allows you to easily swap partitions and download photos.

Not all cameras support the manual loading method.

The vast majority of SDM users want auto boot.

It leaves memory available for other features if I do not support manual loading.

I think it would be great if you could give SDM users the choice how they want to load it. I'm sure there are people who occasionally share their camera with others and perhaps don't want the alternative firmware always running. As well as people who don't want to mess around with partitions and executables.

The A480 supports manual loading of firmware.

thanks, Andy

No, the Windows' mass storage driver does only support & let you access a single partition on such removeable media.
For Windows XP (32 Bit) you could use a modified hard disc driver, but there's no such driver for other Windows versions / 64Bit versions available...blame M$ for this bullshxx !

Hello, I am trying to set my Canon G9 for snap-shooting, with focus and aperture pre-set, to avoid focusing delays. I have enabled Focus Over-ride in SDM 1.83 and set the focus to HYP. On using the camera in AP mode the SDM OSD shows the zoom setting (eg 35mm EFL) and the SD= HYP. The two further values displayed are F and N (far and near?). The SDM over-ride menu has variable values for these.
My point is: if the focus is being set at the hyperfocal distance (with given zoom length and aperture) why do the F and N values not vary accordingly (automatically)? I have battled with the G9 pre-sets to get this working, without SDM, I thought that SDM HYP focus over-ride would achieve it at a stroke, but no- shots are all out of focus, whereas my use of the in-built pre-sets gives results as expected. This is nearly, but not quite, a brilliant feature in SDM.
What else shd I do to get HYP focus to work properly?

My A620 has to be in manual-focusing mode for focus-override to work, but I think your G9 can be in any mode.

Anyway, first of all, try it with manual-focusing enabled.

Thanks, MFG.

It works much better in MF mode. Optimally, I wd like to use focus HYP in AP mode.
Great work, BTW.

So, as far as you can tell, are you saying it works in manual-focus mode but not other modes ?

Aperture-priority should be irrelevant if focus is set to manual.

I would be interested to know if focusing at HYP really does make a difference.

The reason I say that, is because beyond a number of metres the slightest movement of the focusing stepper motor will greatly increase the distance of the focus point.

Try setting that sort of distance manually, it will suddenly jump to infinity.

Yes, works in MF mode, AND in other modes, including AUTO (G9)
