Hello & welcome, pstarmach !

Is it possible for the canon powershot a480 to do timelapse with some modifications?

You'll find a beta version for the A480 with fw 1.00B here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,4670.msg47431.html#msg47431 (read also those remarks).

Use one of the intervalometer scripts:
* http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/LUA#Minimalistic_Intervalometer (Minimalistic Intervalometer)
* http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/LUA#yet_another_accurate_intervalometer (yet another accurate intervalometer)
* http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/User:Fe50#double_intervalometer (my double intervalometer)

i'm still not understanding something.  this is my first time trying.

thats zip file contains a diskboot.bin and ps.fi2, i put it on the memory card.  in the root folder.   nothing happens when i push mode after i power on the camera.  ( i was under the impression something should have changed in the menu ).    any ideas?

any ideas?
Yes, in deed ;)

1.) Go & explore the CHDK wikia !
2.) Read this FAQ
3.) Read the CHDK user manual
4.) try it again...
