Ads on the site
« on: 21 / March / 2010, 06:37:38 »
Advertisements
Hi,

To keep it simple, I would like to know how would you feel about me adding some ads to the site. I was thinking of something like a slim horizontal bar on the board page, and maybe something similar in between posts, the least obtrusive possible.

This has mainly to do with supporting the host's costs, and would not occur without a pre-approval of the layout I'm thinking of.

Should you think this is too much to ask, rest assured that I'm not taking down the board, I'm just hoping to balance the cost.

Thanks in advance.

Ads? WTF! I want my money back!

Just kidding - you have to pay for the site somehow so by all means go ahead.

(By this point of the Internet Age, I have learned how not to look at ads anyway.)

How about a paypal donation link.  What kind of cost are we talking about yearly?  I would prefer giving some cash to avoid ads.

I see your point, but I really didn't want to do that. The cost isn't all that much (~150$/year), and like I said earlier  I'm just looking to soften this a bit.

I have other uses for my storage, so I guess by accepting donations I would be taking advantage over something I really don't want to.

But if I ever get to a point where the donation should be an option, I'll present it to you.

Cheers

ps: again, I will try to make the ads the least intrusive possible, should this be applied.

I have no problem with ads as long as there aren't popups and floaters all over the place.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I've placed a possible layout active in the Newbie board.

the ad appears on the posts as well.

I know that userfriendly.org allows for people to cough up money to avoid the ads.  How about an option to remove ads if you have a yearly membership.  I would love the choice.
