I found Fudgey's Fast/Slow/Video Motion Detector with masks but am wondering if this is the right script to use for capturing lightning strikes.

If not, then what?

If I remember correctly:
M mode adjusted to give roughly correct exposure without lighting.
MF set to infinity

MDFB parameters mostly default, fast mode
