I have an a650is camera and I built a remote release for simplicity with two cr3032 bats that output 6 V. Works nice. Will the 6 V harm it?
Any insight?

All my best

you should not use it directly, connect a 470-1K resistor serial with the battery

It's been while but I have the exact same question. Did anyone ever get their camera ruined from a 6V remote? I've seen some people are using it but have know idea for how long or if anyone got trouble with it.. Of course one would be safer with 5V but it seems the discussions are always based on speculations.

Does anyone have first hand experience on this, or know anyone that's had problem due to a 6V remote?

I use a 6V switch with my A620, it is one of these :-

The USB specification is irrelevant, this is used as a logic signal by the camera and there is a resistor of a few tens of kilohms in series with the USB V+ connection.
