Newbie!! Problem using Applescript CHDK installer on Mac

So I'm a total newbie to CHDK. This is my first post. I've made my first attempt at prepping my SD card today and ran into an issue.

I'm working with  a Canon SD300, a 256 MB SD card, and an iMac running Snow Leopard.

I downloaded the Applescript CHDK installer because I want to automate as much as possible. I started the Applescript, selected the SD card, clicked on format, and then I get an error message saying I need to unlock the SD card to continue. I've tried the lock lever on the card in both positions and I get the same message either way. Is there another lock I'm missing?

Help! Thanks

I verified the mechanical lock is in the right position. The error message i get specifically says

"You must unlock your SD card to install CHDK!
           Message: newfs_msdos:warning: /dev/
disk6s1 is not a character device
newfs_msdos: 3890 clusters too few clusters for
FAT16, need 4085; Number: 1"

Does this mean that my SD card is too small (256 MB)? I'll see if I can track down a bigger one...

You could try my java SDM/CHDK installer - it works on any size card (I've run it on a 128MB card for example). Downloaded it from http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/clickpansdm/sdminst.html

Welcome to the forum,

If zeno's installer doesn't work for some reason you could have a look here:- - Installing on a Mac

Zeno,

I tried your installer. I got a lot farther this time. I set it to copy all the files from the auto build. It prepped the card. The CHDK splash screen came up on the camera and the blue light on the back blinked. But that was about it. There didn't seem to be any difference in the menu options as there were normally. I'm making progress, but still seem to be missing something.

If you're new to CHDK you may not realise you have to press the 'Alt' button (it's the Print button on most cameras) to see the CHDK menus.

I think I got it working. I was missing the print button part. I just played a few rounds of Connect Four with my camera (I didn't always win). Now I need to practice using the features. Eventually I want to add some scripts (intervalometer and remote USB trigger). Will the installer handle these also? Thanks for the help so far! The installer made it as easy as I hoped it would be.
