Can anyone confirm if USB remote is working with A490? I am planning a stereo rig hence the question. I promise to help with testing/porting if I buy this camera.

Thanks in advance!

I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that the "USB remote" feature is working.

Here is an initial build of SDM http://www.zshare.net/download/92911226ccd42d44/

I have a spreadsheet that details a series of stereo tests.

Thanks larryflynt. And you are my new best friend, microfunguy! Do you have a link to the spreadsheet too?

I've got a couple of a490s now. I found that they have firmware version 100e by doing the following on Ubuntu.

$ exiftool IMG_0001.JPG -MakerNotes:FirmwareRevision
Firmware Revision               : 1.00 rev 5.00

(As per http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CameraVersion#Internals "5.00" means "e".)

So I cannot use the existing chdk build for 100f... :-(

I then tried dumping the firmware by using universal dumper. It dumped all right but my PRIMARY.BIN is not identical to the one by hotvedt. Is this normal?

Yes - there is normally stuff at the end of the dump that changes.

Something must be wrong then. I saw the diffs quite early in the file, not at the end.

Spoke too soon. The diffs are indeed near EOF (95% or so). I was reading the diffs incorrectly.

I've got an A490 and I am willing to do testing as long as someone tells me exactly what they want me to test. I do not understand how to use it, I have read manuals but still can't, they usually refer to other cameras with different buttons. All I wanted is RAW files (I have managed to get it to write DNG) and aperture priority (which I haven't managed to set, yet). So far camera is very unreliable, keeps switching itself off, completely unusable. It's not the batteries. Works fine on original firmware, by the way.
