I just bought a Canon A480 camera, i try to install the chdk, but i cannot get the option on the menu for firm update.
I get the info for GM100B when i press set+ display. But in the menu option, it ends on Transition.
Any tips?

Hello & welcome, Jimilu !

but i cannot get the option on the menu for firm update.
I get the info for GM100B when i press set+ display. But in the menu option, it ends on Transition.

Expand all files from the download package to the card's root,
Start the camera in playback mode !
The "Firmware Update" menu item is not available in record mode / when the lens is extended.

Thanks fe50. I expanded the files, ia have the chdk folder, the diskboot.bin, etc. I also started the camera in playback mode, locked the card. I am using a mac, and i am on vacations, so i do not have the cardtricks option for now.

There are two ways to start CHDK on almost every supported camera: Autostart and Manual load.
First of all - extract all files from package to card.

Manual Loading
------------------
Start camera in playback mode!
Many cameras also allow to start CHDK from record mode, but lens should NOT be extended.
Do NOT lock card, don't do anything - just unpack files to card.
And menu entry should contain Update Firm... entry.

Autostart
-----------
To use this - card should be prepared!
Either in CardTricks or using CHDK itself.
So if you don't have CardTricks - load CHDK manually and then select 'Make Card Bootable' from Debug submenu of main menu.
Then LOCK your SD card - that's all.
CHDK should start automatically when camera boots.
To disable autostart just unlock card.

I am using a mac
The usual Mac issue, "security feature" :haha

Read the Mac FAQ, especially the still having trouble section.

The file ps.fi2 must be placed in the card's root, correct named, without any additional OS "security feature" marks or filename extension - otherwise the menu item will not be available.
