Ok - with the active "Enable remote (USB)->" setting in the CHDK scripts menu the PC don't recognize the camera via USB, so the "Enable remote (USB)->" setting in CHDK is NOT enabled or you have a problem with your configuration.

Pls. format your SD card, re-download the CHDK, prepare your card (make bootable, copy CHDK & the scripts), enable the remote in CHDK script menu, load the script, START the script with the shutter & plug in the USB in your PC.

And also remember: use always the "remove Hardware" Funktion (on Windows) before you remove your SD card, sometimes problems with an inconsistent filesystem can cause symptoms like yours...

I have done this.  Still nothing.

When the "Enable Remote (USB ->" setting is active, nothing at all happens.  The PC does not recognize the camera, and the camera does not do anything at all with the script loaded.  When the script is loaded and that setting unchecked, it still goes into review mode and the PC turns it off shortly thereafter.

Is there anything I can provide that would help debug this?  I know I am not the only one with this issue, as uncommon as it seems to be.  Thanks.

I also want to make sure that I am using this properly, as maybe I am missing some detail.  I have been:

- Loading CHDK with Cardtricks (format, make bootable, load allbest 51-425)
- Locking SD card before installing in camera
- Loading Script (and/or checking the USB remote option in the script menu...various combinations of this tested)
- Plug USB cord into camera (either from PC, or with a 5V PSU on the other end)

From what I understand I should not even need a script with the SD870, just check the USB remote box?

Thanks, sorry about the trouble.

Hi bmwman91,
...When the "Enable Remote (USB ->" setting is active, nothing at all happens.  The PC does not recognize the camera, and the camera does not do anything at all with the script loaded.

You must START the script with the shutter button, you'll see the status in the mini console on the display...later you can stop it with the shutter button again.

That's the normal behaviour, with remote disabled the PC recognizes the cam as device again and takes control over it...

The steps you've done are allright.

NO, you NEED a script and the script must be running !

(The scriptless remote control isn't implemented for the SD870 until now, it's only implemented in the SDM (Stereo Data Maker) CHDK version and in the experimental "jucifox branch").

hi bmwman91 does that camera has that feature incorporated in CHDK already? if it does then you may have a non updated version because that problem you are having is common of a port that doesn't have usb remote, I own a powershot sd1200is (ixus95) and remote shooter is not enabled yet, I came here looking for someone who knows what do I need to change in the codes (capt_seq.c is where that stuff is supposed to go) to enable it, but I haven't found any info yet, however you were tld to re-download CHDK because of that, it is possible the compile you are using doesn't supports usb trigger, try downloading another one.
