The following programs open A650 IS files under MacOSX 10.4:

Raw Photo Processor
Photoline (but how do I prevent all overexposed areas to turn pink?)
Dcraw

An another note, does anybody has some color conversion settings for the A650 IS? There are some profiles for the A650 IS on http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,390.0.html but I have no clue what these values mean or how I could apply them in Raw Photo Processor or dcraw.

I have a A720 which was ported later--and have found several of the listed products worked well on my old Windows laptop (not that I am any good at post processing). Take a look at the CHDK Wiki site for the basics:

Note, that there is a DNG4PS-2 and load the "beta version" for latest support.

oh great. I was just bit worrying. Stinks that Picasa cannot eat it, I am using this on a daily basis, love it. Also - isn't it strange that Lightroom cannot open them either ?

the beta version of dng4ps2 works fine for my A650is raws on pc. CS3 handles the DNG files fine.  Picasa can also see the preview image.

I have a A650.  After converting to DNG's via dng4ps2 program, I can open them in a program called Polyview (Polybytes Software - Home of PolyView).  However, unsure if the author intends to keep updating the program.

can CHDK save DNG format directly to the card, or does it have to be converted from RAW to DNG via dng4ps2 ?

At this point, it must be converted out of the camera.

Luckily, source is available for DNG4PS-2 and it can be compiled and run on many platforms.

dcraw added the A650 IS in April. I've been using it extensively and it works well.

Unfortunately, the GUIs that rely on dcraw for image file reading haven't yet included recent format updates. So RawTherapee, IrfanView and UFRaw don't yet support the A650 IS. So you have to use dcraw, which is command line only, directly.

The latest builds of dcraw for Win & Mac are at http://www.insflug.org/raw/

A good guide to dcraw use is here. http://www.guillermoluijk.com/tutorial/dcraw/index_en.htm

I set up batch files for various dcraw options in the Send To directory of Vista (C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo).

All I need to do is highlight a file or group of files in Explorer, right click and select a Send To option to run dcraw against those files. Here's a simple bat file to do recursive processing of all files in the selection with my default settings:
  ------
@echo on
:begin
if _%1_==__ goto end
echo Processing %1...
C:\AA0\dcrawms -v -w -H 0 -o 2 -q 3 -4 -T  %1
shift
goto begin
:end
pause
  ------
