1. As I stated above, there are no remaining images on the card because the images have been moved to the PC.

And then keep leaving the highest number image on the SD card? That's a pretty poor way to manage the problem. Which is why I asked if something could be added to CHDK.Canon MUST have something set internally. When you first buy the camera, you need do nothing. The camera automatically increments the image numbers. AND even if you move all the images off the card, Canon still remembers the next number to assign.
In your camera menu, you can choose if you want to keep the number sequence or start with 0 again every time you insert the card.File Numbering, "Auto Reset" or "Continuous"Like FE50 said, read the manual.
