Trying to dump A3000 IS firmware

Hi guys,

I'm currently trying to dump Canon A3000 IS firmware with the software method, but without success yet.

Camera boots (fine) from the SD Card in Playback mode, but empty.dum file is always full of zeros.
I already tryed tons of diskboot.bin versions: dryos standard version, newdryos and the ones with different padding too.
Any suggestions? I hope I will not need the led blinking method to get this damn firmware!  ???

PS: Other software tricks all work: Firmware version shows if a ver.req file is in the root of the card, Firmware update menu entry appears if a ps.fi2 file is present and so on...

All camera released in 2010 seems to be unable to boot diskboot.bin or PS.FI2 files with the currently known encoding keys (check e.g. this thread: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,5045.msg49988.html#msg49988.) So i think you will not be able to get even a blinker software running on your camera.

Hi ERR, thank you for the explanation!

Anyway, reading the forum thread you linked, my situation seems a bit different since I can easily read firmware version and get a Firmware Update entry in the menu. Does this means anything?

I also get a Firmware Update Menu entry on a A495. The camera only looks if a file with the name PS.FI2 is available on the sd-card. If so, the menu entry shows up. But if you try to start a "firmware update", you got an error (the camera checks then the file for correct encryption). You still can try to get a blinker software running via this way, maybe you are lucky and canon does not change the keys on this camera. But i dont have much hope that this will work...  :(

The ver.req info is also working on a SX210IS, but as you can see in the SX210IS thread, booting via diskboot.bin or PS.FI2 was until now also unsuccesfull.

Thank you for the clarification, again!

I'll try a blinker asap, but I don't have much more hope anymore :(

I also tried to dump the firware with  reyalP's new CBasic udumper and had no luck to start the script.
I tried it a second time and luckily i had vers.req on my SD-card from prior tests and it worked.

So i got a 4MB dump of firmware 1.00D

I got a dump of firmware 1.00B using the same method!

The download link is available on the camera wiki page!
