Having played with  whim's http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,4743.0.html I decided to create an extended version. With Acid, all you have to do is:
   1. take a picture with the camera
   2. put the camera card into a card reader
   3. run Acid and drag the photo from the card and drop it onto the Acid window.
Acid will then:
    * analyse the photo
    * extract the camera model and firmware version information
    * automatically download the appropriate build of SDM or CHDK (depending on which button you press) to a folder you choose
Acid is written in java. There's an OSX app and a windows zip available at http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html.

   Zeno's Missing Page
   I'm afraid that the page "/acid/acid.html." you are looking for does not exist.
(An extra dot in the end of URL.) There's also an extra comma in the end of setepontos link, but the setepontos engine in clever enough to ignore it.

Rather interesting, this MetaData Extractor java package. It seems downright odd though that they make no mention of Phil Harvey on their page.

There is a period '.' at the end of the URL.

I've made a minor improvement to ACID - photos taken by cameras that don't have an 'official' build but where CHDK porting activity is in progress now produce a message saying so (rather than just saying "no build is available"). I've also added the D10 to the official list.

Apologies for how long it's taken me to properly embrace the 'free software' spirit behind CHDK and SDM, but the source code for ACID (and SDMInst) is now available - see http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/kapstuff/JASSource.html

Somehow the Windows zip file contained an acid.properties file with the line "local=yes" in it. This prevented Acid detecting current valid builds (unless you downloaded a couple of tables from my website). I've updated the zip file to fix this, but if you've downloaded Windows acid.zip file in the last few weeks, double-click the acid.properties file and delete the "local=yes" line (or download the zip again. My apologies for the bug.
