Why No CHDK for DIGIC (first generation)?

Hello all,

You have written some amazing software. I'm posting this in General Chat because I didn't want to clutter up the more technical forums.

My question is why hasn't anyone tried to port CHDK to the first generation DIGIC cpu
found in the Powershot G2, etc?

Is there something that fundamentally prohibits this or is there just not enough interest?
I own an old G2 and would love to change some things about its behaviour.

How would I start out if I were to attempt a port on my own? I have some C and assembly
language experience (old Z80 and 6809 macro assembly language experience).

Does anyone have any hardware information on the 1st generation DIGIC? Is it an ARM processor, etc?

I have Canon's fw update version 1.1.0.0 but have not been able to analyze it yet. Anyone playing with this?

Thanks

Totally different architecture. Digic 1 based on x86 processor with RomDOS running on it. It allows to execute an external programs compiled for DOS. Some of such programs you can find at the site below (sorry, russian site).

Thanks for the starting point, GrAnd!

I've found a number of sites discussing Canons that run ROM-DOS, including a dpreview thread.

This page: Dark Skiez, looks very informative indeed!

Looks like I'll be scouting up some development tools for this Linux box soon and see what I can do.

G3 is first DIGIC G-series

Canon PowerShot G3: Digital Photography Review

I think you will find the G2 was not Digic. The G3 (s45 and s400) where the first Digic generation still digital cameras. (Unless Im very much mistaken).

The answer to the CHDK question has already been answered.
