Autoloading without locking the card

After a vacation at the beach, my camera is unable to see the lock anymore. I have made several cleaning attempts without success.

Is it possible to autoload the patch at boot time witout locking the card?

I can still load the patch manually, however I much prefer the autoload function.

Thanks.

I'd be interested in this ability to allow autoloading from an EyeFi, which doesn't have a lock switch. My impression is that this is in the camera firmware, not CHDK, though.

Thanks for your advice.

The problem is in the camera because it happens with all my cards. I have made several attempts at cleaning but I am afraid to dimantle too many parts to get at it.

It seems to me that the requirement to have the card read-only is not logicaly required. If it is a requirement that CHDK has added for safety may be they can make it optional.

I am hoping that the developer will see this exchange and may be consider it in future version.  If I post the same message in DPreview is there a better chance that he would see the request? Is there a more formal channel to give suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Frank43,

I am afraid the autoboot behaviour is not controlled by CHDK but by the camera's original firmware. I think some of the developers explained that the trick with locking the card is probably reserved for service use by Canon in their repair offices. CHDK in fact uses the locked card only as trigger for the automatic boot. Once the camera starts up, CHDK just tricks the camera that the card is not locked and therefore photos can be written without any problems on it.

So locking the card is definitely a requirement to autoboot CHDK.

Zdravko

That's true. This part is embedded into VxWorks (and DryOS as well), so CHDK can't change this behavior without patching the original firmware (what CHDK definitely will not do).

Thanks for the information.

It seems that there are no alternative to manual activation.
