Barney, how did you get the F2.7 aperture?

S3 has the 2.7 aperture instead of the 2.8.

is it possible to get an aperture override when zoomed in?
I mean I would like to take optical zoom pictures without having the camera set the aperture limits to F4 or F4.8 etc.
Even if some of the lens housing becomes visible in pictures this feature may be useful. many times I only care about what's in the center of the frame when taking a zoom picture and could use some more light in.
could this override be safely done with CHDK?

Last night, when fingalo worked on build 128 I played a littlt with prop id 39 & 68, trying to change aperture.
I was to tired to note a change in the pictures but the LCD messages surprised me with apertures up to 11.0.

can you change it the other way too (that is wider than the widest standard one)? perhaps when zoomed in?

Wider than standard aint possible on A620 :'(
prop id 39 values:
608 = f9.0
640 = f10
672 = f11
704 = f13
736 = f14
768 = f16
with higher values it stays with f16 regardless of zoom position.
The bad news: the photo doesn't look like f16 but f8.0  :'(
