ha, just wanted to post the same story, after i found it mentioned in a german forum. http://video.web.de/watch/7424394 (german video).

in most of the articles there is NO word of chdk unfortunately (e.g. here they write that "a computer controls camera which takes pictures every 5 minutes, which is just wrong).

imo this COULD have put CHDK into the spotlight it so deserves, but somewhere somewhen someone failed :(

I think they chose not to mention CHDK because the concept of hacking a camera adds complexity to the news. Their point is that any folk can build a balloon and get NASA-like pictures, and the less chit-chat about technicalities the more impresive the news is.

Not that I'm happy with the lack of info about CHDK's role, I'm just trying to think like a reporter.
