Firmware Version and Buying Online

Hi! I am interested in creating HD timelapse movies as cheaply as possible.

I see that Adorama is selling refurbished A480s for a reasonable price. I also see that Canon has no firmware updates for this camera that has been out for nearly 1.5 years. The CHDK supported firmware version is 1.00B.

I'm guessing it's not going to be possible for me to tell in advance what firmware version is in a camera I purchase from a large, reputable company. So how do I solve this catch-22? Could it be that only version 1.00B has been seen "in the wild"?

thanks, Andy

On the wiki-page, only the 1.00B firmware is reported

Does that mean it is the only version anyone has seen?

Exactly. Since the camera has been out for a while, it's unlikely that there are other firmware versions floating around, but of course we can't be absolutely certain.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

OK, I've ordered an A480. Fingers crossed it has the expected firmware version. :)

I now have the camera and it reports version 1.00B.
