I'd like to build a cheap low frames-per-second stereo camera system.
I've seen that the CHDK can be used with an external trigger to take stereo pictures - but I'd like to process them on my PC as well.

Does CHDK allow USB-streaming or download of the images via USB, as well as having an external trigger (presumably through some kind of digital IO board)?

Thanks.

Well, you would not achieve even one frame per second.
With SDM, the camera has to switch to playback mode before uploading images via USB.

As far as I know, the experimental CHDK PTP build can upload in Record mode and you can also send a 'shoot' command.

In theory SDM can be used but the CHDK PTP seems a more viable solution.

Maybe those who are using that build can comment.

Thanks for your input.

Can anyone recommend a camera model that would allow image streaming via PTP and support a synchronised external trigger?

I suggest that you start reading here and work backwards through the thread :-

Also check recent posts by EWAVR, he notes that a particular camera is slow at communicating via PTP.
