I came upon a590 camera with firmware 1.00d. I intended to use it for CHDK, but there is no build for this firmware. Both existing builds do not work. Any idea for how this camera can be CHDKed? Like, is it possible to to change the firmware?

Assuming you have the fw and model right (and I don't see why you wouldn't, it seems there's a590 1.00c out there as well that hasn't been ported yet), the first step is to dump the firmware, for a590 the easiest is probably the universal dumper from
