Is it possible to compile chdk so it doesn't save a config file. I have a sx110is that seems to crash under circumstances which can be alleviated by deleting the config file. setting the "don't save" config doesn't seem to help. I can't identify yet what is causing it though I suspect it has to do with RAW or DNG setings.

For now I just want to prevent the creating and saving of the config file. Another solution perhaps?

Is it crashing when you turn the camera on (camera turns off almost immediately)?

There have been a few cameras affected by a similar problem recently, and some progress has been made towards resolving this startup crash.

If this is what you are seeing I can take a look at the firmware to see if the sx100is may be affected by this issue.

Yeah thats exactly whats happening! seems to occur when the settings are saved, usually extended settings such as DNG. and you later restart the camera. As you say goes dead almost immediately and impossible to fix in the field. I can fix by deleting the config file. Bit of a nuisance when out on a shoot to say the least!

On other cameras the problem occurs when the startup code tries to load one of the font files. There is a conflict with another task running on the camera when opening and closing files. Looking at the SX110is firmware it would appear that it could be same problem for you.

Attached is a build of the latest code for firmware 1.00b, with a patch that should help (if the problem is what I think it is).

Please try this and let us know how it goes (unpack the diskboot.bin from the file and replace the one on the SD card).
