Is there any way to engage exposure lock when shooting in movie mode?

As an alternative, perhaps it's possible to force movie recording when the camera is in manual mode? - this way you would have complete control over ISO, shutter speed and aperture when shooting movies.

For A-series cameras, press "+/-" button to lock exposure (or "disp" for cameras without "+/-" button), then "left" and "right" to adjust exposure ("fast video control"  must be turned off). Press "+/-" again to return to auto exposure mode.

For S-, SX-, G-, some A- and SD- series read user's manual, this feature already present in firmware.

The Ixus series (at least the newer ones) support AFL (Focus Lock) and AEL (Exposure Lock) + exposure conrol in video mode.

For the Ixus 860 (SD870) the keys are (when already in video mode):

UP (ISO): the exposure bar is shown (this is the AEL indicator) and the exposure is locked - with LEFT/RIGHT the exposure can also be adjusted (disable it with UP)

shutter half-pressed + LEFT: AFL enabled (disable it with LEFT)
