Auto Exposure Lock and Scripts

I have a Canon A480. If I enable AE Lock and run a script (I've tried several) then as soon as it gets to taking a picture the script stops and leaves the camera in a strange state. It's still in shooting mode but looks like play mode.

Is this expected?
