 :xmas Please help this Noobie - I have a Power Shot SD1100is camera and I'm trying to load in the latest CHDK build file.

I don't know what the firmware version is, but attempting to use the ver.req command, I get 1.0.1.0 - but I'm told in the CHDK literature that's not correct.  (when I called the Canon help line the guy said the firmware virsion is 1.0.1.0 and that there has been NO upgrade.)

Anyway I downloaded the zipped build - IXUS80-sd1100-101b-0.9.9-898-full and unzipped it.

Then I coppied the DISKBOOT.BIN and the CHDK folder onto the 8GB SD Memory Card.

Thus far I haven't been able to activate the CHDK features yet.

What do you reccomend ?

Please don't call Canon for CHDK support. The less we bother them the better, and the last thing we want to do is cost them money in support time!

There are three different firmware versions of the SD1100, so you must find out what firmware version your camera has.

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._How_can_I_get_the_original_firmware_version_number_of_my_camera.3F has instructions and links to tools that will help you find the firmware version.

To use an 8GB card with this camera, you must use the manual loading method. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/%22firmware_update_method%22

This uses the ps.fi2, not the diskboot.bin.

As noted on the SD 1100 wiki page, this port does not properly support multiple partitions, so to use diskboot, you'd need to partition it, and you'd only be able to use 4GB anyway. If you decide you like CHDK, I'd suggest just buying a 4GB card for it.

Download and install Acid (http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html) then take a photo with your camera, run Acid and you'll get the right build.

But - I still haven't gotten to first base in determining the firmware verson of this SD1100.

I have loaded the DISKBOOT.BIN and the CHDK folder onto the card.

But haven't yet been able to get the build to operate.

What should I be doing ?

(p.s. - I did not discuss CHDK with the guy on the Canon help line - incidentally, he didn't seem too bright)

1) use CameraVersion to get your real firmware version
2) download CHDK for your fw version from the Autobuild Server - use the full package
3) unzip the CHDK package to the root of your SD card
4) start your camera in playback mode - with the blue [>] button - the lens must be retracted !
5) press MENU, in the Canon menu scroll down, call "Firmware Update" & confirm...

Well, I downloaded CameraVersion file and got the exacutable CameraVerson11 file.

Now what the heck do I do with it ?

Please give this dummy explicit detailed instructions !

I hate to be such a bother - but I'm confused !
