Hi thepanoguy
I have tried to make a stand-alone setup. Jaycar is where I bought the PIR from.
I am coming to the conclusion I am wasting my time & everyone elses too.
I guess I need to try the in-camera motion detection with CHDK / SDM.
I am new to all these new options with my camera now.
Does this motion detection use the cameras sensor to "see" movement or changes to the pixels ?
Cheers
Col

I have no idea what you are doing wrong.

It is impossible for all those three builds to be wrong.

I will have to try uploading the uncompressed files.

I assume you did unzip and rename them and deleted any CHDK.CFG that was created ?

Oh, good morning, you don't need much sleep.
You must be better looking then me :-)

Yes I have downloaded them & copied them across OK.
Just for the exercise I did a download to another SD of the CHDK files & they went into the camera OK & ran CHDK properly.
Anyway lets forget this, it is too much trouble & unneccessary for just having fun with our recreation.
I will look at the in-camera motion detection with CHDK.
I will have to learn about the scripts & what to do etc.
That can't be anymore trouble then what I have caused here.
Cheers

It is extremely unlikely there is a problem with the SDM builds.

I will know later today if the US user was able to boot SDM 1.84.

Technical details of a typical security PIR detector is available at:
Download the PDF file towards the middle of the page.

the camera just displays as Canon intended with "Card Locked" showing, no upgrade or crash.

This means: the camera don't load diskboot.bin at all, so either

A) the file is missing/corrupted/not visible to the camera,
e.g. not placed in the card's root, not named "diskboot.bin" or copied with the Mac OS quarantine flag

or

B) the card is not FAT16 formatted and CHDK-bootable (i.e. "BOOTDISK" at offset 040h), maybe the partition table could be incorrect (from a failed multi partition setup).

Hi fe50
Are these instructions for me, Colin ?

A) the file is visible on the computer, Windows XP.
It is named DISKBOOT.BIN.

B)The card is FAT 16 & CHDK bootable. By CardTricks.
This part is not understandable by me ?? (i.e. "BOOTDISK" at offset 040h), maybe the partition table could be incorrect (from a failed multi partition setup).

There are just two files on the SD Card, ver.req & DISKBOOT.BIN.

Cheers

Delete vers.req and use sdminst.exe to check card is bootable.

We will know by the time you get-up whether the builds load OK.

Yes the card is showing as bootable with SDMINST.
